Are you our next Communications Officer?

About the Role

You'll be responsible for creating media releases, social media content, newsletters and corporate communications that are clear, engaging and professionally written. While AI can support the process, we're looking for someone with strong instincts, creativity and the ability to think on their feet when fast responses are needed.

Working directly with the CEO and Mayor, attention to detail is critical. Whether it's a press release, community update or social post, your writing needs to be polished, accurate and purposeful.

This is an on-site role due to the responsive nature of the position. Some days you may be attending community events, capturing photos and turning around content in real time.

About You

You're a creative thinker and a confident writer who knows how to adapt your communication style to different audiences and situations. You understand that great communication isn't just about sounding good, it's about using the right language, at the right time, for the right audience.

You may be:

  • A recent graduate looking to build your communications career in a hands-on role with real impact
  • An experienced communications or media professional seeking flexible part-time work
  • Someone returning to the workforce who still has a passion for storytelling and community engagement

Most importantly, you'll bring:

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and editorial accuracy
  • The ability to write clearly, professionally and strategically
  • Confidence working within a politically aware environment
  • Creativity, initiative and the ability to think quickly under pressure
  • Strong digital literacy across social media and website platforms
  • A collaborative approach and the confidence to engage with stakeholders at all levels

Qualifications and/or demonstrated experience in communications, journalism, public relations, digital media or a related field will be highly regarded.

Why Join Upper Lachlan Shire Council?

This is an opportunity to step into a visible and meaningful role where your work will directly influence how Council connects with its community.

You'll enjoy:

  • Flexible part-time hours
  • A varied and engaging workload
  • Direct exposure to senior leadership
  • The opportunity to build a strong portfolio of communications work
  • A role where no two days are the same

This role is classified as Grade 11 under Council's salary system, commencing at $41.00 per hour.
