Senior Building and Signs Officer - Fixed term Contract

Do you enjoy working outdoors and take pride in ensuring buildings and signage are safe, compliant, and presented to a high standard?

Upper Lachlan Shire Council is looking for a committed Senior Building and Signs Officer to join our Infrastructure team on a fixed-term contract from 1 June to 31 August 2027. In this hands-on role, you will guide the day-to-day work of building maintenance and signage and support team members to undertake work efficiently, effectively and safely.

What's on Offer:

  • 38 hour week on the basis of a 9 day fortnight Crookwell location with regular travel within Upper Lachlan Shire

  • Salary range starts at $1352.13 - $1529.85 per week + superannuation (Grade 10 in accordance with Council's Salary System and the Local Government State Award)

What You'll Do:

  • Plan, update and arrange work plans, material lists, WHS documentation and undertake or allocate work tasks and identify improvements to work systems and processes Direct and undertake day-to-day activities of building maintenance and signage works to ensure organisational, management and legislative requirements are met
  • Assessment of buildings or structures to prepare and prioritise defects.
  • General tasks to support council buildings and operations.
  • Ensure safe work practices including the development and implementation of safe work method statements, risk assessments, injury and incident reporting and any other work health and safety requirements/obligations under the Work Health and Safety Act
  • Control traffic at worksites, including the placement of signs, lights and barriers, in accordance with relevant legislative requirements and standards
  • Maintain adopted policies, procedures, processes and systems of work, and hold team members accountable to apply them when carrying out their work

What You'll Bring:

  • Certificate III in Carpentry.
  • Contemporary knowledge and demonstrated experience in building maintenance works and signage systems.
  • A semi-developed understanding of Australian Standards and the National Construction Codes and their application to buildings.
  • Ability to assess and solve issues relating to buildings, structures, fixtures and staff.
  • Ability to competently use hand and power tools to achieve desired outcomes to a high standard.
  • Proven track record leading and supporting staff to achieve work targets and objectives effectively and efficiently
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, including influencing and negotiation; and research and information analysis to facilitate understanding and/or decision-making
  • Traffic controller certification desired.
  • WHS General Construction Induction (White) card.
  • Current Class C Drivers Licence.
